Commercial Construction Estimator
Position Overview
Rupe is looking to hire a full-time detail-oriented and analytical Commercial Construction Estimator to join our team. The Estimator is responsible for preparing accurate and competitive cost estimates for commercial construction projects by analyzing plans, obtaining subcontractor pricing, and utilizing historical cost data. This role is critical to supporting project acquisition, budgeting, and planning efforts.
Key Responsibilities
• Manage the budgeting and bid-out process for construction projects in all markets from project conception to construction hand-off
• Maintain up-to-date knowledge of current job costs, market conditions, material pricing, labor rates, and industry trends
• Review project plans, specifications, and other documents to prepare detailed and accurate estimates
• Perform quantity takeoffs and solicit pricing from vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors
• Develop comprehensive bid packages to ensure no scope gaps amongst trades
• Participate in pre-bid meetings and site visits, as needed
• Develop and maintain cost databases, historical pricing, and unit cost data
• Collaborate with project managers, architects, engineers, and owners to provide input on budget pricing, clarify scope, and resolve discrepancies
• Assist in value engineering and identifying cost-saving opportunities without compromising quality
• Prepare and present bid packages and proposal documentation in a timely and professional manner
• Track awarded bids and analyze estimating performance against actual project costs
• Research and network in new markets by establishing subcontractor relationships to obtain budget pricing for new projects
• Manage document management software to ensure project teams are working in most current versions of all working documents
• Track and communicate changes as drawing revisions are issued throughout the site development process.
Qualifications
• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, Accounting/Finance, Engineering, Architecture, or a related field (or equivalent experience)
• Minimum of 1–3 years of estimating experience in commercial construction
• Proficient with estimating software (Bluebeam, On-Screen Takeoff, Sage Estimating, ProEst, Plan Swift, ProCore a plus)
• Strong understanding of construction means, methods, and materials
• Excellent math, analytical, and problem-solving skills
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to manage multiple estimates in various project stages and meet tight deadlines
Work Environment
• Primarily office-based with occasional site visits as needed
• Fast-paced, deadline-driven environment requiring attention to detail and organization
Compensation, what we are seeking and how to apply:
The company offers a comprehensive benefits package, including medical, dental, life, and vision insurance, in addition to base compensation and paid time off. These benefits will begin on the first of the month following the start of employment. The company covers 70% of the employee’s medical premium on both option 1 and option 2 plans. Employer contribution may change annually. Employees are eligible for the 401(k) plan after three months of employment, with the company matching up to 4% of contributions if the employee contributes 4%. Vesting starts immediately. The base compensation for this role will be commensurate with experience but the range will be within the fair market value of this role.
